Rosacea
Couperose
Visibly dilated veins, blotchy redness, feelings of heat and tension: vascularised skin, also known as couperose or rosacea, is far more than just a blemish. Couperose refers to a genetically determined dilation of the blood vessels in the face. Initially there is a temporary ‘flushing’ with an unpleasant feeling of heat, followed by persistent, butterfly-shaped reddening of the skin. In the advanced stage, swelling and papules can develop in addition to the persistent redness. The effects of couperose are often very debilitating for those affected.
